Jignesh Mevani is a social activist turned politician in Gujarat. He is a member representing Vadgam constituency in Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He had led protests by Dalits, considered ‘lower castes’ in the Indian caste hierarchy, in Gujarat in 2016. Jignesh opted to run as an independent candidate in the Vadgam constituency for the 2017 Gujarat Assembly Election. He won with 18,000 votes in the election. He completed his bachelor’s degree in English Literature. He finished his second bachelor’s degree in LLB (Bachelor of Law). Jinesh finished a diploma course in Journalism and Mass Communication.

On 26 April 2022, Jignesh was arrested for an assault case. According to the source, Jignesh Mevani assaulted a policewoman on April 21 in Barpeta. He was charged under IPC sections 294 (uttering obscene comments in public), 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 353 (assaulting a public servant in the course of duty), and 354 (using criminal force on a woman intending to outrage her modesty).
